Today as part of our ongoing series "Once upon a time BABYMETAL" the Admins for the BABYMETAL Fan Club France Facebook group, I have decided to tell you about a song BABYMETAL covered in 2012 during the Legend D concert. It is Over the Future from Karen Girl's.
Is it just a tribute to Suzuka's first Idol group ? Or is there a bit more meaning behind this cover ?
You know it by now, "Over the Future" is a song by Karen Girl's Suzuka's first group under Amuse. The group started in 2008 but last only about 1 year. This song and this group were coupled with an anime called Zettai Karen Children,
In 2010, Suzuka was in a new group, Sakura Gakuin, and at auditions to recruit new members a yet to become famous duo performed Over the Future.
Unsurprisingly they were selected.
So it that it ? Yui and Moa used that song for their Sakura Gakuin audition and it's also a tribute to their beginings with Sakura Gakuin.
Maybe, but not so fast....
As far as I know, Moa never said anything about being a Karen Girl's fan, but in 2008/2009 among the Karen Girl's fans there was a 9 years old name Mizuno Yui.
Yui says in her son blog that she was a huge fan of this group and that at the time a familly member got very sick and she had to go to hospital everyday for visits.
As she was too young, she couldn't enter the ICU and had to stay by herself in the waiting room. Noticing her distress a doctor told her that listening to her favorite music would help and of course it was Karen Girl's.
During that time Yui would listen to Karen Girl's a lot, to cheers herself up, get strong and face the tough time she was going through with courage.
When the family member was finaly released from hospital, Yui kept listening to Karen Girl's and watched the MV attentively to learn the dance moves.
A year later in 2009, Yui's dream finally came through and she did go to a Karen Girl's concert with all her familly. She left the concert knowing that's what she wanted to do.
That is why Karen Girl's and Over the Future have a very special place in Yui's heart and as a member of BABYMETAL she was not only able to perform with her Idol but to sing the very song which helped her with her friend / Senpai.
And for Suzuka, is that also a tribute to her past career ?
Yes of course, but Legend D was held on December 20th 2012, for those not aware it was Suzuka's 15th birthday.
So for her Seitensai she was able to sing this song with her two kōhai Yui et Moa.
